Jennifer Adams is a Change and Communications Manager based in Brisbane. Jennifer has always enjoyed the challenges writing offers, especially when it comes to the technical aspects. Known to have used a marker pen or two to add missing apostrophes, she enjoys the rigour of non-fiction writing, and the diverse challenges a fiction story presents. She is also a staunch advocate of the oxford comma.
Jennifer writes every day in her job, helping office workers across Australia understand and adjust to new workplace designs and practices. She believes that humans should be at the heart of every corporate project and loves helping people understand and adjust to new physical spaces in the workplace, ways of working, and connecting and collaborating with colleagues.
In 2013 Jennifer’s book Sleeping Apart not Falling Apart: How to keep your relationship alive and get a good night's sleep (Finch Publishing) was released. This was a passion project for Jennifer, who for years felt she had to justify her and her husband’s decision to sleep in separate rooms. She took her passionate advocacy for their decision and asked the world what they thought; the response was swift and loud. Drawing on the voices and stories of fellow separate sleepers, Jennifer wrote her book to let everyone know that getting a good night’s sleep is essential and not ‘just a nice thing to do’. Sleeping Apart not Falling Apart was also published in Taiwan and China.
Jennifer has recently published a revised and updated edition of the book in the UK in partnership with sleep expert Dr Neil Stanley. The book has be renamed A Sleep Divorce: How to sleep apart not fall apart. The book is available on all Amazon sites.
A foundation member of the Brisbane Scribes, Jennifer finally had one of her short stories published in the September 2023 Furious Fiction Showcase. She's now hooked and is looking forward to her next 'win'. Mostly though, she just enjoys meeting and spending time with fellow enthusiastic writers who love to talk about their craft and have a glass of wine.
Jennifer worked with three Scribes members to help write a social history of the Camp Hill Medical Centre to celebrate their 75th anniversary. Published in 2022, the social history was launched at Custom’s House in September and was warmly received by the practice and its community.
